A few points that may help people in the future...
There are no screws holding the fsu in.
There is a clip at the bottom of the fsu that holds it in place, you have to push this down to release it.
I removed the side kick panel, the drop down panel above the pedals and the air vent tube for better access.
Took me about 25 mins as I was looking for screws that weren't there lol.

Both front and rear blowers now work from changing the one fsu, I'd read that they have 2....
Thanks for everyone's help!!

Youre right i think, i just thought i remembered taking out a screw for some reason....

Similar problem as OP, but my rear fans still work, but just no hot air comes from them, just ambient temperature air.
I bought a FSR from RockAuto.com as an attempt to see. I just hope its not the blower motor itself :(

holy crap that was fast.
ok, so my FSR crapped out, and so I ordered one from RockAuto Parts Catalog and they had the factory part, not an OEM but actual factory part and for a smart price too. shipping was about $35 to get it from the UK to Western Canada, but I got the prt in 4 days!!!!!!
Rockauto.com also has lots of parts for non bimmers too (and other Bimmers actually too)
I made two orders on the same day from Rockauto. One was shipping from Eastern US, and the other from the UK and I can't believe the UK shipment made it faster. WOOHOO. Daddy' gonna have heat in the X5 tonight.

cool

Phuck Phuck Phuck, that did NOT solve my problem. I read it could be a relay stopped since my fuses and resistor are fine.. Just praying its not a blower motor replacement.
160K kms only

puddinboo 10-21-2013 08:42 PM

do you know which relay it is maybe you could give the relay a tap and might temporarely fixxed your problem. sometimes the contact get stuck together. how hard is it to get at the blower to unplug it ?
