Hindsight is 20/20. The thing is, it takes about 10-15 minutes to replace, and I didn't think it would go bad so quickly. If it turns out it is the pump, i'm going to have to splurge with the Bavarian Auto $336 part.

even though i agree with you:iagree:, something should be brand new, and even then you don't have any guarantee... we will pull him out of this one...

Don't need to "Splurge" Here's one that is Brand New and with a 18 months guarantee.

Right New Electric Fuel Pump with Sending Unit Passenger Side RH Hand X5 | eBay

I saw that yesterday, would you recommend prozone? I mean, 18 months warranty sounds good, but like Tommy Calahan said in the movie 'Tommy Boy', "How do you know the guaranteed fairy isn't some crazy glue sniffer. He sneaks into your house once and that's all it takes. Next thing you know, there is money missing off your dresser and your daughter is knocked up! If you want me to take a dump in a box, and mark it guaranteed I will. I've got spare time."

I think with eBay if you file a complaint with them if the item fails within the guarantee period they will try to get you some relief, either another Brand New pump or your money back.

Return of the P0171, P0174 - YouTube

Video of the problem.

upallnight 08-06-2013 12:12 PM

The Good News:
From your video I don't think the problem is with the fuel pump.

The Bad News:
You got an automatic light that came on when you punch the pedal and that is an indication that you have a trans problem. The DME is cutting the fuel to the injectors to prevent you from destroying the trans with aggressive driving.

Are you sure the P0171 and P0174 codes weren't from the previous problem? Did you clear the codes?

Since you got the auto trans light what kind of code(s) did you get for it? If you are not using BMW specific you may not be able to read the error code.

upallnight is right, this is something else... what codes are you getting with the new light that you are getting? i forgot, did you ever get yourself a GT1 or the INPA?

The codes were completely erased from the last time. Those were the pending codes when I got the light the first time around. Turning the vehicle off and on clears the light and the engine revs up good a few times (in park) but them starts to lose power. If it was a trans problem would it still kill the fuel to the injectors when it was parked?

This is exactly what happened last time including the light. It only came on once the last time when I was trying to test drive it and the codes were posted on the other thread. My hope is that it isn't a trans prob. It is gonna ruin my upcoming bday next week if it is (I deserve 1 happy Bday damnit!) and will make me pretty broke fast.
