The mediabridge at about $150. I have the mediabridge. The mediabridge provides BT, AUX, USB and satellite radio as an addon if you want. It uses all existing radio and steering wheel buttons. All are available on Amazon.

All of which are almost as expensive as just getting an aftermarket deck, at which point I may as well just get off my butt and reinstall this again since it's all sitting in my garage.

Baris replied to my email and wrote this, so I'm back to square one:

Hi
It can't be done via a laptop. And if it's an 01 year unit, then not even a firmware upgrade will enable the aux.
Kind regards
Baris

If no DSP then it's simple.Dynavin N6 for the factory look navigation.itll run you about 700-750$ if I'm not mistaken...do a search on N6..that's what I want to do in my car but they have to figure out first a way for it to work with the US based DSP.

I have an 05 X5 with the Bluetooth module.

I can use my iPhone and it'll allow the voice to work over the car audio system - also navigation directions via my iPhone will play over the car audio too.

But I can't seem to play music? Is this right? I just got the Bluetooth working with my phone recently

That's crazy. Seems like the phone can talk to the car just fine. What gives?

I believe the X is probably, based on the year, an older iteration of Bluetooth that didn't allow streaming. Bluetooth has been updated over the years to offer more features, though to upgrade the Bluetooth in your X would require a hardware update, not software.

Interesting... i have a so-called 12th generation BT unit... that unit did SMS on old razor phone, the messages were on main monitor, but i did not try to stream anything. Oh, btw, no more messages on monitor, even phones are getting smarter and smarter... i need to try it, just to see if it works on mine

I don't want to install an aftermarket unit, what's the best module to use?

Riggodeaux 09-09-2014 03:20 PM

Q, to aid your search, add your year, model, existing audio system [or codes from your build sheet if you have it] to your signature. Looking back through the thread, you appear to have an early [2001; what build date?] with a basic radio set up. The more info you provide, the better for posters here to help you.
