Get rid of my 2002 4.6is.

Already had it detailed professionally. Soooo...

1. Put on style 87's and new tires about 2 months after.
2. New expansion tank, hoses , water pump, pulley etc.
3. New Fuel pump, fuel filter
4. New passenger Headlight
5. Finish the L.E.D. upgrades to the interior lighting
6. Do calipers with G2 Caliper colored epoxy. Haven't decided what color just yet. Holds it's gloss for years. Holds up way better than spraying it on. Goes on nice and thick.

Spring tasks: install the OEM trailer hitch kit, work a little 3M magic on the headlight covers and apply plastic film protective covers; locate some truffelbroun leather touch up [Surflex maybe?] for the one tiny wear mark on the drivers' side cushion; perhaps a little DrColorchip [Sapphire Black] to a couple of chips on the front before I have nice detail/wax done.
After that [at next oil change, when I'll try Pennzoil Euro Ultra 5w30, replacing current Mobil1 0w40]: pull another Blackstone sample, DISA overhaul. By late Fall I'll do the spark plugs [as I approach 100k] and will be getting close to a front brake job [rear done with Akebonos at 81k miles, still 50% wear left on the front at that point].

I'm pretty sure G2 only has the regular red for calipers paint. It's a brush on system so pretty easy to apply, no masking job. When curing, it will smooth out the brush strokes. There's exposy mix in it so it will harden and become very durable. Don't buy it until you're ready to use it. The shelf life is 6mos for the product.

Did you remove the calipers from the car to paint them?

Corrected slightly as the shelf life is longer than it used to be, years back when I did my VW Jetta it was about 6 months but they use a different bottle cap for the reactor now so it extends life significantly, up to 18 months as I just checked their website.

And Gary I think I sent you link yesterday for color matched kit, if you wanted its $100 but they will make you a Sienna Red kit if you wanted.

You don't have to remove the calipers from the car at all, just prep the surfaces and mask anything you don't want to paint. You can remove them if you want but its extra work, and if removing them then you'd probably want to just send them out for rebuilding and powdercoating at that point lol!

I was thinking about removing the calipers because they'd be easier to clean, and in my mind it just seems like you'd get better coverage with the paint if they were out of the car. Send them out for powdercoating??? Blasphemy, I say... why pay someone else to do what I can do myself??? :bustingup

Do you have an air compressor? If you're taking them out all the way, I'd at least rebuild them with new seals and such, you'd have to remove the piston to do so, but if they are off the car its no matter.

Alternatively you could drop the calipers and 4 sets of seals to your local indy and he could prob do the rebuild on his lunch break.

If it were me that's what I'd do, based on the mileage and age of the calipers. Don't know how often you flush the brakes but mine were done 2 years ago and about due again, the better your brake flush interval is the longer life for your calipers.
