Yes, if it hadn't been diesel, it would have been a much scarier experience, but when aerosolized like that, it will still burn.

Let the diesel wick into something like wood or cloth and it will burn easier.

I have some pics of the part that I can upload when I'm not on mobile.

Do you have the SIB for the fuel filter heater element recall? My stealership called me yesterday and said ours was faulty. Another dealership recently replaced the fuel filter which leaves me curious they messed up the heater element while doing so.

I don't have it handy, it you should be able to find it on google.

I would press them to replace it under the recall campaign even if it's been done before. FIRE was one of the symptoms of the recall

When I lookup (BMW recall site), there are zero outstanding recalls, so its possible it was already complete. My vehicle is a 2011 (12/10 build)

Yeah, it doesn't come up on mine either, but the dealer told me it was performed in 2011.

What's retarded with bmw is that you can't easily get a list of recalls done. Bmwna says to contact the dealer who we know can't always be trusted. Bmwna pays for the recalls, why the heck can't they look up our cars? I suppose the nhsta recalls get updated as I don't see the front driveshaft one on the site as I had it done, but there are other ones that don't get listed there so we have no freaking clue if they were done!

From my limited experience, when I drop off either one of my BMW's for regular service, when they read the key, the recall comes up. They will replace the parts while doing any normal service (if available), or schedule another appointment to do the repairs.

If a recall is not listed for your VIN, either there isn't one, or it's been completed.

Just my two pennies...

so I removed the acoustic foam on top of the engine compartment and i got significantly more engine noise in the cabin.

i wonder if it's because im deleted.

well find out when you get the car running.

Yeah, I was considering leaving mine off. Maybe I'll keep it.

If you can compare engine cover on and off with nothing else changed, that would be appreciated!
