Delete is all done. I put the acoustic mat back on.

The noise under the hood is quieter than before since the wastegate exaust leak is reduced from less back pressure.

The noise inside the cabin (from the tiny bit I've driven) seems only slightly more. You can really hear the turbos when you get on it.

Obviously the noise at the tailpipe is much louder.

How long did the delete take you to do on your own? What was the cost?

I'm into it for about $1400 and laying in the mud it took about 16-18 hours of actual hard work. I spread it out over two weekends.

With practice, and a lift, I would see doing it in a day. But I did some stuff like completely disassembling the intake manifold to soak it in purple power.

But you can have it ultrasonically cleaned much more quickly.

How's the smell, no doc cat, right?
I had a tdi straight piped, removed doc and it wasn't bad, but some say these stink bad cause of common rail and low compression.

There's a slight waft of diesel soot now and again.

I wouldn't mind a typical diesel cat. They sweeten up the exhaust smell. But I don't mind it a bit and my wife says she likes it. So here we are.

who did your tune?

I covered the rear top half of the accoustic foam in aluminum duct tape. to prevent the water issue and also to cut down on noise.

you can really tell the difference when you start the car since the starter is right behind the dash.

unfortunately the decibel app isn't that sensitive. but the foam seems to cut back on a lot of the noise produced by the air turbulence going into the intake.

on the soot smell i can't seem to get mine to produce any smell even when i turn off recirculate and crank up the heat. Im guessing a lot of gunk burned off trough use !

The soot smell isn't in the car unless I reverse with the windows down. But standing at the tailgate with the engine on there is a light odor where there was not before.

My tune came from DUDMD Tuning. I know him from his work on the M62 engine.

When I was actually ready to pull the trigger, I got silence from Bawareca, but Dmitri @ DUDMD always answered me within the hour. He even walked me through the DIY delete. And he hooked me up with stage 2 for $500.

Went for a 110mile drive through the mountains yesterday. It's running brilliantly. DUDMD's tune was perfect right out of the box.
