BTW, anyone know if there's a way to make the dash show a digital speedo or is that program-only?

you need program for that, you also can do the folding mirror with locking. a guy in brooklyn can do it with a small fee. but last time i check with him, he can't do it with 2011.

Thanks for the forum

Just traded up from a 2006 X5 to a 2012 X5.

Yes, I did read the book titled "Manual" before I picked it up.

As for the guy who doesn't like the forum, well he doesn't have to read it right?http://www.xoutpost.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif

Believe it or not, the sales guy really knew many of these things and brief me on them, unlike the first salesman.

BTW, I miss the hidden flash light in the glove box.

Great thread guys...keep it up! I'm waiting for my 2008 BMW 4.8i to arrive next week...this gives me a good read to study up on before it arrives...very excited to get it!

Have you downloaded a PDF of the Owner's Manual from the BMW site?

That's also a good read while your waiting for it to arrive.

And it's handy to have in PDF form, as you can do a word search, instead of the limited index in the printed version.

Hey thanks Penguin...good call, I just downloaded it.

Looks like I have 292 pages of "light reading" now!!

Yeah, I spend three weeks reading it in the bathtub with a cigar before I took delivery.

There's a lot of stuff in there to know.

Here's another hint. The manual is pretty big and has a lot of stuff in it of little or no importance. So I do not keep the manual in the X5. Instead I printed a few of the important pages I might need while in the vehicle, like the manual sunroof instructions, manual transmission release, towing instructions, instrument panel waring light IDs, etc. onto plain paper, and just keep the folded-up pages in the glove box.

^ that's a good idea - I've been meaning to read up on the manual tranny and sunroof instructions just to get familiar with it anyway.

Great thanks again Penguin...I'm sure a Cohiba or Montecristo will go quite nicely with my manual reading!

rh71....question....I see you've moded your lights with the GP Thunders. What are your thoughts on them? Looking at those or the Lux H8 (sorry I know there's a seperate thread for this...just a quick question!).

Try an Arturo Fuente Short Story sometime -- it's my favorite and it smokes longer than it's small size would suggest.

I'll give it a try...been sticking mostly with Punch and H.Upmann these days...good time for a switch up! I'll need to find a nice one to celebrate when my '08 arrives, hopefully late next week!
