I'm surprised about the others working with the vehicle turned off. That means that if you ever parked your vehicle outside, anyone could gain access to your house by breaking a window and using the opener.

Well, usually they will work for a spell - I think on the Lexus it was 20 minutes (for 'accessories' to operate, after which you'd have to turn the key at least to ACC again). Now, I've never had a garage that had a window, although that's an interesting point.

On the other hand, knowing a thing or two about security (mostly of the data kind, but still).. If you cannot maintain physical security, the rest is just fluff anyway.

So even the Lexus method wasn't bad, it was for convenience, with security still a factor. If I can break in, well.. But if I shut off after 20 minutes and make you use your key, I have some security. If the bad guy has your key, well.. You're kind of screwed anyway.

BMW seems to place a priority on being cautious, rather than convenient, overall... remember, these are the people who make you pull the interior door handles twice to open the door if it is locked. And who will not let you back-up the vehicle with the door open.

Ja. Zis is true!

But the %*% thing should still open the garage door while the car is running and I'm more than three feet from it.

I know this came up earlier on a different thread - some said a software update helped a lot. I have it on my list to whine about when I take it in for service (still 4K miles to go, which would make it 16K miles old).

First service at 16K miles.. Nothing broken yet. Yeah.. Lexus can suck it.

Sometimes playing with the antenna wire on the door opener head unit in the garage, putting it in different orientations, can improve the range a bit.

Well sure, but..

With other cars, antenna in current position, works GREAT.
With X5, not so much.

Correlating the variables.. which one seems out of place? :)

I did inspect the antenna - probably on your suggestion ;) - but everything seems fine there.

I certainly will try again - no harm, doesn't cost anything, etc. But the dealer will hear about it first thing.

Along with my windscreen noise. That someone said there was a bulletin on, but no one seems to know which one, exactly. (so I can say "is this my problem?")

I actually do support for a "large data storage maker." I know how this game is played. For way higher stakes.

Must be EMC in RTP?

Or IBM, also a large presence in the area. As is Cisco, but they are not storage. I've been to all 3!
