Did anybody ever asked the dealer if the could perform the changes? Removing the warning would be out of the question, but for example closing the rear lid with the fob is something that should have been programmed from day 1

I am not going to say that I guaranteed it, but I am pretty sure most of these functions are available elsewhere in the world. But in USA, possibly due to insurance/safety issues, they disable most of these functions. Like windows up from remote, someone might be sticking their head out or arm, and it is a liability issue. Same with trunk, if you are away from the vehicle, you should not be closing the trunk with the remote. And if you are close enough to see it is clear from obstruction, you might as well push the button on the door to close it.

Don't get me wrong.. This is not me saying these stuff, just an assumption why they did not include the functions (or simply disabled them) nein nein nein..! :p:

With the new user-ability to customise settings, there is nothing the dealer can or will do further. Heck, I asked them to adjust the sensitivity of my mother's E90 automatic headlamps and they couldn't do that either. :confused:

Might consider coding my pop's X5 if I feel generous (it's a lease); already going to ask someone to code the E90. My X3 was coded back in March so I feel kind of cool motoring around with Euro-spec headlights, getting rid of the key chime was a HUGE improvement, and various other improvements. :cool:

Something I hadn't thought of, but some of these very well may void any insurance claim in case of an accident. Imagine totaling the truck and the insurance company telling you you're SOL since your headlights or warning message didn't meet spec.

It passes the Virginia state safety inspection, which only requires two forward headlights (and obviously a functioning high beam). :beerchug: And I even looked up NC safety inspection, which is the same: just two forward headlights. Plus, you'd have to be pretty damn blind to miss the headlights of a massive car even if viewing from the side angles. :rolleyes:

It's silly how FMVSS is so strict yet a Euro-spec car would meet many state requirements. Virginia has nothing in its code on vehicle reflectors or emissions controls (partly because the state has no emissions inspection), although it does say DRLs have to turn off if the blinker is located very close (example: Audi A4).

What exactly are you two referring to? Is it the euro-spec headlights? What is the difference?

I'm not speaking about any one code in particular. What I am saying is, if for some reason you got into an accident, I would definitely not put it past the insurance company to plug their computer into the car, see that defaults are changed, and deny you your claim. "Mr. Smith, we regret to inform you that you're out of luck because your car did not have the proper warning displayed upon startup on the display screen". "What's that have to do with someone hitting me at 25MPH?" "It doesn't matter, it's been changed from factory default. Go buy a Hyundai".

I'd be shocked if the insurance companies had that kind of time to plug computers into every single collision report. :rolleyes:

If every single mod has possible ramifications on insurance, then almost everyone on this board would be guilty of it. Perhaps someone will sue me for removing the airbag warning sticker on the sunvisors.

Still this doesn't answer me what does the euro-spec headlights mod change in operation?

For the E70, basically deleting the amber blinkers as the parking lights does the trick for the headlights, as the corona rings are the parking lights.

For my older X3 (before corona rings were introduced for the LCI in 09/06), there was a small bulb that fit in the upper corner of the high beam, similar to the E46 and many other cars. For North America since the blinker functions as the parking light, the small bulb is deleted. So once I deleted the amber light as the parking light, I had to put in that extra bulb. The blinker still works fully as designed.

Of course, in Europe they don't have the reflector embedded in the corner or the wheelwell (in the case of the E70) but I'm not going to go thru that trouble.
