It's with a sad heart I announce the parting of ways between myself and what might be the current highest mileage E53 on xoutpost



Alas, at 388,801 miles on January 24th of 2021, reverse gear disappeared from my GM 5L40-e transmission without a trace of noise, mechanical action or change in engine RPM. All I did was try to back out of a parking space after starting the engine and got zip, zero, nada......


As I observed the deepening crack in the leather of the driver's seat, I said thank you and take a rest and proceeded to find my next X5, a lovely sapphire black 2016 F15 x35i with the luxury trim package


And as a bonus, I found a buyer for the 2002 E53 I think he's excited to get the OEM hitch and wiring harness, rust free body and the roof rail cross bars.

x5Alpine is on a distinguished road
damn. If I put that many miles on my E53 I would keep it forever. Nice F15 but I think you might find the E53 is the better car

I joined the F15 clan (Der Adler) some months ago after parting with the E53 we owned for 16 years.
OP: I almost bought a F15 from Sewell but could not get the deal I wanted.
I like Der Adler but miss the old girl.

I definitely prefer the E53 steering feel on the highway and like its center console lid more than the clamshell on the F15, but the F15 is delivering 20% better fuel mileage

I've been watching the F15 forum for some time now and have been pleased with the lack of issues owners have had with them compared to the F70 model, so we'll see what happens. Felt lucky to get another Texas only vehicle though with all service performed at a local dealership.
