will pick up my 3.0d LCI mid of next month, first time own a diesel engine.
May I know which diesel in Australia is the best for our X ? BP ultimate diesel ? Shell or Caltex vortex ? not able to find much information with google about the % content of bio fuel & sulphur.

thanks.

There shouldn't be anything between the major brands as they all have to comply with the current Australian diesel fuel standard which for the last ten years has become more and more regulated, and tougher especially as regards sulphur content. I think the best tip is to avoid any of the budget outlets if you have them over your way. I also wouldn't use any bio-diesel mix even if BMW says 5% bio diesel is okay as that side of the fuel industry here in Australia seems less well regulated than the mainstream side.

Picked up the new 40d today. Nice drive, 8sp transmission is much better than the old 6sp. Next time I will get the comfort/ventilated seats. Platinum Grey looks nice in real life, has a tinge of blue in it.

The bum warmer seats are a really nice touch

+1.
That's why I steal the X on really cold mornings.
Keeps the croissants for breakfast warm in the passenger seat too. :D

Hehe, it's a guilty pleasure for sure! A friend has a 125 vert with bum warmers and I use them every time I get in!

I test drove the 30D and 40D... Had to go with the 40D for the power!
Have just ordered one. Coming in 2 weeks.

How's yours doing after a few months bedding-in? Any issues?

My $0.02 - I've a 40D since Sep 2010 and haven't experienced any series issues yet.

One minor issue - the lane change warning fn failed, switching itself off (and warned me with a message telling me this); system was fine next time I drove the car and never seen this issue again.

I thought this was an issue until I spoke to a BWM tech; the engine fans sometimes continue to run (for a short period of time) after the engine is shut off; this is normal and is just the engine cooling down the twin turbos. (Not sure if 30D's do this, as maybe specific to twin turbos.)

Many modern cars do this. BMW, or not. Diesel or petrol. Nothing to do with being bi-turbo.

Precisely...

Ideally for Turbo motors, the engine would idle for a minute or so to let the turbine speeds slow down before the pressurised oil feed stops once the engine is shut down.

I try to let mine sit idle for a minute before shutting it down.

Well, after waiting for 3 weeks for the new 40D I did a final inspection on it yesterday (as recommended by some board members), and what do I find??? - a scratch on on LF fender, scratches to the boot-floor handle and scuff marks on the boot lid (gggrrrrr)
Dealer says that they will paint the fender, replace the handle and try and remove the scuff marks - and this is suppose to be a brand new car!!!
Is it really a new car after being repaired before delivery? (Not Happy Jan!!!)
