They're testing under full-load for extended periods of time, plus these manifolds are much thinner than normal. While this wouldn't happen on the street, I'm sure it'll be this way on the track. If you really want to see something cool, you gotta see a heavy duty diesel engine during full-load breakability tests...imagine the compressor housing so hot that you can see the wheel spinning inside.

the 400NM @ 4000rpm is wrong Sunil. They wouldn't be quoting 400nm at 6100rpm then.

haha.. that's bogus.. what happened to hp = torque at 5252rpm?

remember, hp = torque * RPM / 5252 and 5252 is the constant.

The only error on the graph seems to be that hp is mislabelled. The first scale on the right is hp, the second is kw.

HP does equal torque at 5252, but only if both are in British/US units. Torque is listed in Nm here.

All that aside, that is an amazing torque curve, and suggests that this engine is going to be very responsive in the mid-range as well. Not as good on torque as the 335 under 2000 rpm, but impressive for an NA engine.

good catch jeff.. but why would BMW mention they reach peak torque at 6100rpm when at 4000 they are making the same?

Look at the scale of the graph, it's to close to 'tell' just by looking at it. While the tq might very close at 4k, peak might technically really be at 6k.

btw.. interesting about the dip right after 4000 and then back up at 6000... what's up with the tuning in that range..
