Whirring whine Sound

I have a 2011; I have not heard the whining sound; I only have 3,900 miles on mine so maybe it will start later?

Today I dropped my car off as a BMWNA engineer was making rounds and was at my dealer today. Shop Foreman and BMW Engineer concluded and determined the sound was coming from a faulty power steering pump. Pump has been ordered from Germany and will be here within a couple of weeks. I pushed them on the different RPMs and driving characteristics that triggered the noise and they said under different vehicle strains the car would act differently. Anyways this make some sense as the pitch in the sound of the whine does change as the wheel is turned.

Anyways they wont keep my car until then so back goes the X6 loaner but will keep you updated. They also did the side marker light recall so I will let you all knwo how that turned out.

i picked up the M today, sound returned after a short trip to the mall...

I have only driven my car a day or two since I got it back and so far so good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Did they just replace the belts for the whine sound?

replaced these for the sound ( it didnt work ) it was fine until i used the M mode..

11-28-7-549-873 belt tensioner X1
11-28-7-565-361 ribbed v-belt X1
11-28-7-570-266 ribbed v-belt X1

the guy handling my car told me that they just got a "memo" about a recall for the parts listed here basically. bmw has been aware of this problem too.

I`m hoping to hear further this week - the replacement of these parts did help initially before the sound returned.........
