Angry Heating sytem / climate control issue

Hello
I have a very strange problem with my X3.
It's cold here in MN, well it was a week ago , and when I start the car the automatic climate control acts normal , it waits till engine warms up and then starts blowing hot air , at about 80 to 90% of the blower speed.
Well normally in a 10-15 min of driving it suppose to slow down and decrease the temperature of the air coming inside . But it does not happen.
When it's around -20 degrees outside it stays at 80% of the blower speed and air stays VERY hot , my right leg gets VERY HOT, while the left one is freezing ... In fact my right leg gets so hot after 40 min driving, I can still fill slight burning sensation after a few hours.
More then that , once there was about -30 degrees here and the windows on the left side got foggy and then frozen when I was driving in the morning. My right leg was still very hot , but left one cold
I have to set climate control to 61 degrees ( 68 normally ) to stop it from burning my leg.
Took it to the dealer here - Motorwerks, and they although I've explained everything to them - they somehow decided to test air temperature and fan speed while car was in the worm garage , and found nothing wrong. Of course , they didn't drive it and said to me - nothing is wrong with it.

Anyone of you had this kind of problem ? Any clues?

Regars
Anton

We don’t have the extreme temperatures in Tx (it did hit +19 for a few minutes the other day, we’ll probably hit 77 today)

We do have the same problem you have SO we keep the thermostat set on 68, maybe the auto temp display is in C and not F

Try this…touch the auto button, adjust temp to 68, and then touch 1, 2 or all 3 of the buttons to the left of the temp adjustment buttons. This will take control of where the heated air goes away from the X3’s small brain and lets you control where the air goes. Hope this helps.

Well, I can manage everything myself, but would really want to get it fixed.
This is 2006 X3 and while I don't mind adjusting temperature myself, this car is mostly driven by my wife, and she doesn't take "no" for an answer
I drive 2003 X5 4.4 and don't have any problems with climate control there.
I think this could be an issue with the internal temperature sensor . I have no idea where it's located and couldn't find anything on google. Anyone with electrical schematic of the car could tell is there is an internal temperature sensor in this car?

Also , this car has only 20K miles on it , and rear breaks rotors seems to have very uneven surface . I'd like to replace these rotors and pads. Is this covered by warranty ?

I know what you are talking about. The only thing I have been able to find is that I put the temp on the air condition to 16,5C. Then it is manageable. Interesting though, since the low end of the scale is 16C. So when it is -30C outside, mine is set almost to the lowest end and it feels like a sauna inside. And true that it blows way to much. As if the minimum setting is 5 bars on the display in auto mode, no matter what.

What I have also noticed is that it functions a lot better when driving on highway. Then I can increase the temp on the unit to 21C and feel good. The problem mainly occurs when driving in city with very low speed for over an hour.

Have not figured yet how to get rid of it. The dealer says there is nothing wrong. What might help is to turn the A/C on. I have not used it in cold weather since it really does not make any sense other that getting rid of moisture and getting rid of foggy windows.

The best setting I have found to work is to set the temperature to 16.5C - 18C. Set it on auto, then turn off A/C and direct it to blow down to feet and towards window.

It almost feels as if the system changes the scale behind the scenes depending on the temperature outside. So during summer I cannot get that heat out of the blower even with 35C setup in the unit. Yet 16.5C is a real heat bomber during winter.

:xoutpost:

everything that is wrong with your car is either covered by the new car warranty or the maintenace program

Here is the kicker : How does the system work over time from cold to hot engine?

On my X5 is't wainting till engine worms up a little and then starts windows and legs air circulation , then when the engine reaches "normal" temperature it turns on the air in the middle of the console.

On X3, however, it's different. It starts with leg air circulation ( after initial warm up ) and stays there forever, never really switching "middle" console air outlets on.

Is this normal for X3? Please share your experience.

Anton.
