Getting back to the original question... in my house, it is 50/50. Two X3's, one driven by my wife and one by me.
We had an X5 3.0 a couple of years ago. I think it is a damned nice vehicle, with better ride quality and nicer interior materials than the X3. But comparing the 4.8 to an X3 (of any flavor) is analogous to comparing an M5 to a 3-series. That being said, since weight is the speed's mortal enemy, even a 4.8 would have trouble beating an X3 on an auto-x course. Lightness counts more than horespower, or brakes or tire size (which is why my previousl 1st gen MR2 kicked the crap out of a bunch of M cars at a local BMW CCA auto-x). FWIW... the only 4.8 in my area is driven by a woman who I see daily dropping her kids off at school... |
