Thank you so much for all the feedback. Engine's not overheating and I'm not finding puddles so bleeding may be the way to go. Would you please explain where the bleeding screw is located and give pointers on how? I'm no car expert but love to learn.

The bleed screw is right next to the expansion tank cap. It is plastic with a cross slot. Start the vehicle, turn the heater on. Let the engine warm up to operating temperature. Turn the bleed screw counter clockwise very slowly until you see bubbles coming out. Do not remove the bleed screw. It should take about 1/2 to 3/4 turn before bubbles or coolant shows. Open the bled screw only enough to see bubbles or coolant. Once only coolant comes out turn the bleed clockwise. Be careful not to over tighten the screw. It doesn't take much to have it tight enough. Turn the engine off and let it cool down. Slowly remove the expansion tank cap to release any pressure. Top off as needed. You're done.

You guys are awesome!
Last night, I unscrew the bleeding screw 'til the coolant started to seep. Then after the engine cooled, I open the cap and see that it's almost back to the suggested level!!! I had to add just a tiny bit of coolant. I checked it again in the morning and it's at the same level!! Even my trusty mechanic (not a BMW specialist) suggested that I leave the car with him for a couple days so that he can thoroughly inspect where the leak is. Does this coolant bleeding only apply to Bimmers? |

Bleeding the cooling system when it has been drained or very low is universal. There are many different processes to remove the air depending on the make and model vehicle. Some are easier to do than others and work better than others but they all get it done.
