I'd slam it and clean the lines or rally it out for fun with big fog lights and a raked stance with stripes type thing. It'd be cool.

Like so?

Or even older...

I really don't mind the brand one bit, just the history I've had with a majority of the drivers of them.

Those V70R things look kind of fun.

I can't touch any Volvos past the early 90's, because those were the last of the RWD wagons. Once Volvo went FWD/AWD they became dead to me.

I share the generalized disdain of FWD and acknowledge Volvo isn't shooting for spirited driving, but I had some fun in my S80. It gave me a great love of the fast-sofa/luxo-barge approach. Proll'y why I have a 750iL now.

And Plattus1000, yeah, the V70 and S60 R models are fantastic. All the joys of your touring, just with the drive wheels on the wrong end.

Well, not quite all the joys of my wagon. There's the 0-60 times, the noise and the fact that the headliner won't fall down on my head after a few years but I hear ya. I'd like to own one.

Ok, it's officially listed on CL. I won't link to it here as of "tou" rules. If you're in Seattle and looking for an e53 4.6is X5, I'm sure you'll find it.

I'll update the registry with the new buyer.

So frigg'n sad.

How do I even begin..

We (my ex and I bought this rig for her to enjoy and deal with driving Winter mountain passes. It cost about $8,500 then and we tossed about $9,700 at it to get it "right". The ex then thinks it's a money pit and wants to sell it, we did. It broke my heart. Like, sending an animal off to a new home or sadly, putting one down. The only redeeming factor was that Quan and his wife loved the X5 and I knew it was well taken care of.

Almost 7 years later and conveniently while my 4.6 e39 wagon is recovering in Wagon_ho's gracious care after I tried to install a fire hydrant into the engine bay of the wagon.. (long story, we'll agree that there was wildlife involved and just move on) 7 years later I get a text from someone I haven't communicated with for almost 5 years. It's Quan. He and his wife Chloe wanted to let me know that they had to sell the X5 and we're curious if I'd be interested. They have a pair of dogs and ine is dealing with some medical issues and for these reasons they bought a better suv for the dog's needs.

My heart was broken for their dog warmed by their efforts to comfort their friend and humbled at the offer to regain what I'd let slip once before. I didn't hesitate to agree to whatever price they asked and I paid it in cash. It took a few weeks to coordinate the purchase as we live on opposite sides of Washington.

The drive home felt like wearing your favorite sweatshirt or boots after losing either for a long time. I was, she was home. I'm sure we'll both regret it at some points down the line but for now, we're back together.

My plan is to add headers and basically do everything I did to my 4.6,installed in the wagon. All prepping for some forced air later or not, we'll see.

For now, I'll say thank you to Quan and Chloe. The X is in good/fair hands and we'll adored. I'll be forever grateful for your gift of remembrance.

Congrats on your divorce, nothing more wrong than a woman who you end up with who runs your life and makes you sell away anything that gives you some happiness and quiet alone time. Glad you got back together with the one who got away...

Being fair: it was her vehicle when we had it but I think she just liked the image whereas I liked the vehicle for what it was. Secretly, I hated the X5 as a soccer mom rig that would never be as fun as my BMW.. I was happily proven wrong. The 4.6 in a city, constantly amazed me with how nimble it could be and how aggressive I could drive (if one wanted to)

I was opposed to getting an X but it grew on me. When she wanted to sell it, I was actually sad at the loss but Quan and Chloe kept her in great shape and yes, we're back together and relearning one another's quirks.

Blessed and thankful.
