The rule is a solid guide for sprung weight, but losing even a 10 pounds unsprung will do wonders as we move our big ole SUVs around. I like the wheels I have, but the OE's were so much lighter and the difference in daily driving is incredible. I may have to move on some custom wheels if I can find a nice, custom thick solid 5- spoke.

I felt the same incredible difference when I ditched the heavy OE rotors for StopTech on the E39 about 13 yrs ago. I was happily impressed again when I did the same on the X5 3 years ago. The whole attitude of the ride is different when the suspension doesn't have to move all that weight around. It reacts to imperfections completely differently and it 'feels' like a much smaller ride all of the sudden.

Between the StopTechs and some super light wheels, I'm betting I would get my old 3.0's road feel back. Yummy.

I've heard... and this is just heard, as I've done no actual research on it, that losing unsprung weight (in calipers, wheels, rotors, etc) is equivalent to 3-4 times the same amount of sprung weight. Again, I've just heard that...

Truck is at the detailers for paint correction and Opti-Coating. Will report back this weekend with actual weights when I do my caliper painting (GASP!) and brake servicing. I chose VHT burnt copper SP402 for the caliper color in case anyone was wondering.

Okay so since you are keeping the OEM brakes on the X in the short term take a look at these rotor designs. I love the overdimpled ones .

Thanks, and yeah I ordered BMW centers for them. I just have a personal taste thing with wheels. Factory centers are a must for me apparently. I am also not dropping it, unless the EHCII completely sh%ts the bed. Then I'd go coil overs. Those rotors are pretty cool, but I ended up going with some brakemotive rotors/ceramic pads. $240 complete... can't beat that.

It would look great with a drop, but this is an SUV and a comfort cruiser for us so it will stay at stock height. Maybe in the future if EHCII gives me a massive headache I'll go coil overs. I was considering the roof rail delete... and then my wife said it looks like a mini-van (her words, lol) without the rails. Ended that thought in my mind really quickly...

Thanks. The forgestar caps are nice by afermarket standards for sure... but my OCD won out and I ordered factory 60mm centers for them.

Hoping to take a bunch this weekend if the weather cooperates. Just spent a bunch at the detailer. He had 20+ hours in it as of yesterday evening and after seeing it... was definitely worth it. Picking it up today...

Thank you, I only wish I had more money to spend on it so things could happen faster... lol. It's expensive being a car guy, and even more expensive when you marry a car girl as well.

Totally agree on the roof rails. Add in a drop and you've almost got a station wagon...

Crystalworks- roof rail delete only if its dropped. At stock height rails on fit it better.

I hear you. I think it can look good either way (rails on or off) depending on the vehicle and mods.

The wife just has a way of letting me know on certain mods that she is not "on-board."

Got the truck back... and mannnnnnnn does it look good. Hopefully will post some pics tomorrow. They did A LOT of work. Including wet-sanding the hood to get it back to better than I thought it was even capable of looking without a full respray. They had ~30 hours in the truck over 3 days. Amazing job really. My back hurts just thinking about it...

Now to sell my 168's to help pay for all this... Will sign up for a premier membership so I can list them in the FS section soon. Just cleaned them up and took detailed pics today after installing the security cameras outside.

Edit: Teaser cell phone pics I shot after picking it up...
