I purchased two
3M 08612 Window-Weld 3/8" x 15' Round Ribbon Sealer Kit
and this one
3M 08621 Window-Weld 5/16" x 15' Round Ribbon Sealer Roll

Tips: After applying the tape to the door, wave a heat gun on the low setting to softened the butyl tape to a sticky goo, apply the vapor barrier then use a Dynmat style roller to press the barrier to the tape. Should hold for life, give or take 10 years.....

How does one remove the vapor barrier?
I have seen video on using razor to cut thru it.
I tried that and it seemed slow going.

It is very slow going - unless you don't care and are replacing it - then you can rip and cut away

My favorite parts houses don't seem to stock the part.
Does the dealer sell these for less than the price of a used kidney?

RE: Removal

It's easiest to remove the door seal when the butyl rope is cold. You can then pull gently at the vapor barrier and razor blade the butyl as it is stretching. Haven't punctured a barrier yet using this method. However, I have an air conditioned garage so it is easier for me to get the temperature down in there.

If you remove it when the butyl is warm or hot... you end up with a sticky and gooey mess.

But then you'll be screaming bloody hell every year when you have to do your window regulators/door carriers

Speaking of door seals, while I was replacing my rear door woofers, I came upon an OE speaker that had rust on the back of its magnet.

I took that opportunity to renew the door seal by getting a good press on the existing butyl rubber seal material. Apparently someone had been in there before and did not fully seal the seal.

Also, I gave both lower door panel seams a good dose of my CorrosionX anti-corrosion spray to give an additional margin of protection to those vulnerable seams.
