Thanks for sharing your experiences with those headlights.
I want to replace the glass covers if I will find some time and way more important: enough courage to do so
Maybe this would be an option for you too since you got them open now?

I can not find a replacement lens source. I am refinishing these while I have them off. Coming out okay, but I have not done the final coating step which makes the most difference.

I really wish they made glass versions of this headlight lens, but it is an extremely complicated shape so it does not surprise me that a glass lens is not offered.

I have found this replacement parts (bulgarian shop): Tuning autoparts with best price from : HEADLAMP GLASS COVER FOR BMW E53 04-07 | ProParts
But I don't know if they do really fit nor do I have experiences buying from this store.

You're right, a glass version would be nice or even if they where designed to be replaceable like the pre faclift e39 ones...

If that is $123.90 for a pair... I'll be ordering them soon to replace these. If it's 123.90ea, they are less desirable and will get put on the list of things to do well down the road.

Yes the price is per pair, but I suppose the shipping costs won't be cheap

Another thing to change I saw from the orig vs modded headlight pic is get a pair of the silver stealth turn signal bulbs so that there is no orange reflection in the housing. On vehicles i have done a clear corner mod on IMO is a must for a perfect clean look.

I was thinking about that. I am strange and kind of prefer the "egg yolk" look, but it's still up in the air. I may get a pair of those stealth bulbs yet.

Got them back on the truck, bumper and fogs remounted, and the slash shield installed. Completed all the wiring for the lights and they look amazing. Now I just have to do the Minwax/mineral spirits mix for the final gloss look. I think I will need to replace the lenses in the future though.

^Wait no longer. And same here, worst headlights to split yet. Have any pics of your imola? I'm always looking for imolas to see what other owners have done with them.

Teaser pics. This is post Minwax/mineral spirits sealing. Holy crap does that last step make all the difference. Went from meh, at least they look better than before, to wow, those look almost new.
