On another forum this guy posted a thread asking why his car runs rough and CEL comes on and off. No other information period, no engine, year, miles, DTCs, etc. He wouldn't even take his car to get scanned as he felt that people should be able to diagnose his issue over the internet with no information.

As a high mileage poster, I have noticed that noobs are coming on this forum that have little to no experience in working on cars and that this is their first BMW. I guess they believed that because BMWs are engineered by Germans nothing can go wrong with them. They are shell shock when they bring the BMW in and it cost them anywhere between 100 to 200 just to get a scan. Rather than pay for the scan they come on this forum looking for a CHEAP solution to their problem. Can't afford to own a BMW, buy yourself a KIA. End of RANT.

QFT. Now that these trucks are well below $10,000 this will get more and more common.

X's in this part of the country are below 5,000.00. What we are seeing are the bottom feeders. $5,000 for a 5 years old KIA or $5,000 for a 15 year-old X.

...I guess a "rant" post is actually a "vent" post...and although the ones that the rant is geared to may never see/read it...at least "venting" gets it off their chest...and gives some mild relief.

Indeed upallnight, I agree with you totally. X's are not cheap to run and if you need to ask yourself what will it cost to own, then you might want to consider something cheaper. I love getting my hands dirty. I have had my x5 for 5 years and its better than when I bought it thanks to this site. I have done lots of little mods to the car that make sure it stands out on its own and is subtle for my tastes. I like it when people look at my car and say, 'Oh that's not standard on mine!' (Yeah, coz I took the time, research and effort to mod it and make it look like a retro fit) If I can save a few quid thanks to the help of this site and advice of others... then why not? I will add that to my window tinting fund
