Okay a little more research indicates that this is the Integrated Supply module found on N62 engine equipped E53 and BMWs after this. First gen X5's do not carry this fuse module.

Integrated voltage module only found on the 4.8 engine x5. Not found on the 3.0 or 4.4 x5s

I thought it was on all N62 variants? The 6'ers, 7'ers, and 5'ers with the N62 are equipped as well I believe.

Edit: IVM or why my engine runs sluggish??? N62 applies to ALL cars with it. E53/e65/e60/e63/e64/e66 | BMW Logic7 site

Ah...IVM (Integrated voltage module ).

Thanks to all that responded with the answer & for the education of where it's located & what it looks like. Hopefully others learned something new, too.

I usually try to write the full meaning of a rarely used acronym or abreviation so that it can be absorbed into the forum's lexicon.

BTW...just tried to look it up in the parts database for my 06 4.4 (n62) and it is called the ISM (integrated supply module).

I thought i posted that, i guess it never sent. Any ideas on my alternator? The 13.6-13.8 just seems low.

That is probably getting to the lower side of nominal on an N62, if not too low already. My 4.4i was 14.2-14.6v after replacing an alternator that had a failed voltage regulator.

Voltage regulator seems to be a common pain on our n62 - had to replace mine also due to overvoltage, fried my ULF (Version 12, damn)
Never had problems with that on other vehicles...

I bought a remanufacturerd alternator from auto zone. Im not sure of the original brand but it was remanufactured by ac delco. It comes with a lifetime warranty snd i have replaced it 2 times and this looks like the third. I dont know if its just poor quality parts being put into these units or if my car its self is ruining them. How could i find this info? On the initial install everythjng runs fine. Voltage is fine. They only last about 6 months and then the voltage starts getting irregular. How much does an oem unit cost? I know these reman. Units are identical the factory one. They have the same castings on the case that say bosche or whatever. Any thoughts?
