Those are sharp! Are the VR's a step up or down from the TR series you installed in your X?

Looking at the specs of the VR I would surmise that the TR is a replacement for those speakers. Still a better performer than the stock drivers in the X5.

I'm glad you looked. I had no idea. I really just wanted the x-overs.

But seriously... They'll be great in her car. I removed the grills from the OE HK's on the rear deck and they looked like originals of the Declaration of Independence. I ordered another set from a link here for $140 shipped. That's less than $10 from these and gets me x-overs for the rears as well.

The X5 is missing it's transmission at the moment, so I may be able to get some progress on running the cables for the expected Android unit. What I NEED to do is settle down on the E46 install and see how this Eonon unit handles. All in due time.

Get as much work done as you can on the X now that its stationary - once that trans is dumped back in you won't want to work on it you'll want to drive

Does she have a coupe with Harmon Kardon? If so, I think that the tweeter/midrange "pod" takes those 2" Vifa Woofers that we found for the rear E53 door midranges as well, and then just pair it in the pod with the tweeter of your choice - there is a thread on the E46 boards about it -

It's a sedan with HK.

(4) 6.5": Front door, rear deck.
(4) tweeters: A Pillar and rear door.
(2) 2.75" Midrange: front doors.
(2) 6x9 Woofers: rear deck. (no plans to change)

I got the no brand 2.75" mids today. I am waiting for the other components I ordered yesterday. I hope to run the big cable and maybe even hook up the Eonon this weekend.

Thanks for this guidance Prop!

Likewise, I have an E46 sedan with HK and will be following your progress and selections closely so that in the coming spring months I can make similar improvements.

PS: Aren't there 6.5" Woofers in the E46 rear door?

Thanks,

Mike

I know, rt? I was sooo confused when I started looking for them. They're not in the rear doors. Just the rear deck under the 'HK' grills. Very much like the front dash mid grills, they just pry rt up revealing the 6.5" mid/subs.

I did find and order some brackets that supposedly allow us to mount 6.5" speakers in the factory 3 holes. I don't know *really* how necessary they are, but for $8/pr (2pr needed), I figured it was worth it to have them them if it saves a drill or other trimming.

It's freaking beeeYOOtiful outside and I have customer meetings this afternoon. I wonder if they'll be able to tell my head is somewhere else?

Yeah, I knew about the rear decks (and may give those rear deck grilles some paint touch up) but couldn't remember if there were any woofers in the rear doors. Then I found this:

https://www.bavsound.com/Product/Sta...rdon-Top-Hi-Fi

Which helps me understand what's in there.

I'm going to try to find another two sets of JLs woofers with tweeters and then see what everyone says about the mid ranges. Maybe even go back to Memphis Audios with trimming.

PS: Prop, do you have a link for those adapter mounting brackets?

Mike

^^Thanks Mike for the OE dash midranges - I am going to see if I can "retrofit" a new driver in the factory housing, retaining the OE wiring clips if possible but at least having it mount in the dash without trimming -

Thinking those 2"/65mm Peerless/Vifa woofers that Jay received but hasn't installed yet for the rear doors should actually work well in both locations - stay tuned - I actually am probably going to do my C2-600CW's and rear door midranges first and do the front doors last
