VC job almost underway.....

Interesting, but possibly I found my weird idle vibration...
AC compressor going kaputz. Starting making this terrible ratteling noise that led to a finding that ghost more easily. Touched the line and without even making full contact, you could feel the vibration off the AC line.

Who want's to buy me a recovery and recharge machine ;-)

This may be hard for a lot of people to believe, but check your inner CV joints for play. X5's are notorious for wearing them out and you can drive a long time on a worn one without any negative repercussions. When putting your X5 into reverse or drive sometimes you can hear an audible click followed by the vibrations. Changed out my passenger side CV (cause the inner joint was blown) and my car now no longer has the click when going into reverse or drive and idles smoothly at stop lights without the mirrors shaking.

I've had vibration at idle, in-drive, ac-on and brakes pressed. I did everything, change plugs, cleaned MAF, ICV, etc... Lately when my oil was low (i have oil leak), I heard a rattle coming from the front of the car. So I suspected the vanos seals. I bought a rebuild vanos off ebay. Last night I swapped it out and the idle is smooth. when AC is on I can see the rpm rises to 980. No more vibration.
My vanos was original with 172K miles. So it was not performing for years now.

I'm back to a rough idle condition, but only when the outside temperature is below 70 degrees. Doesn't matter if the engine is hot or cold, only what the ambient air temperature is. Already replaced all plugs and coils, performed smoke test and inspected CCV since the problem started so I'm thinking it must be MAF replacement time.
