My 2005 X5 Aftermarket Radio Install Thread

For anyone curious this is what the interface looks like plugged into the usb port on the radio before being tucked into the dash.

I purchased the interface here :

IBUS Interface for BMW cars

Its the V6 one.

Another cute thing it does is to show you open doors and open sunroof on the monitor screen.

First pic is with the doors closed and 2nd shows the drivers door open.

Sorry about the glare in some of the pics my cell phone flash loves to kick in without warning. Note 8 is a bit to fancy for simple picture taking at times.

Oh in case no ones noticed this software gives android radios complete control over the dsp in a dsp system

So that's about as far as I can go till I get the activation code.

Any questions up till now?

Seems the activation is done online thru the radio itself which isn't working yet either so there wont be a code to enter.

So still waiting on it to activate.

So far I really love this particular radio over the other ones I have. Mine range from $200 to $2000 and this one is my favorite. Its been very reliable so far and sound is great. Its the only stereo I own that I have never even looked at the EQ or other sound settings. Its was perfect when plugged in right off the bat.

When I finally do the aftermarket speakers and amps one day I will no doubt have to tinker with the sound settings but so far I just enjoy it as it is.

I'm looking forward to seeing what the jl audio stealth sub will be like with a 10" woofer it should really fill out the low end a bunch more.

I'm still checking my email incase they send a notice that the app is activated but nothing yet. I will go out and try the stereo again shortly to see if it went active or not.

I figure it will be active by tomorrow at least.

Hey Crowz,
Connect to your WiFi or hotspot to your phone (if you can) and try unlocking through the software - I think it's the spanner icon. I was waiting for an email that didn't come so I tried unlocking through the app and voila!
