When I unplug the MAF sensor while the engine is running, the engine keeps running (I believe it should STOP running if the MAF works)? Could my new battery have killed the sensor and other sensors?

What's next to try?

Topic getting very long- thought I'd post the continuation here- https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...ml#post1118144
Nope engine will continue to run even if the MAF is disconnected. It will cause a check engine light to come on, but the computer will default to preset data if it doesn't see data from the MAF. Data is normal air flow at grams per seconds (g/s).

Like so many people myself included have mention just bite the bullet and have it towed to a shop that fixes car for a living.

For example. I've got the positive terminal in the engine area as well.
Is there a specific order the new battery and leads should be connected in? Is the voltage I'm getting normal (11.8v then 13.6v at running)?

How can I clear the code and thus the trans fail-safe?
That's a red flag in my book when people mention that they figure out there's a positive terminal in the car. My neighbor hooked up the battery incorrectly to his Rolls Royce (Yeah I know we live in a wealthy part of town) and blew the shunt module for the car. Nothing work, not even the headlight. Did some trouble shooting for him and told him that the shunt module was blown. He ended up selling the Rolls at a big lost.

Did you hook up the battery backward? If you did you probably blew out some modules or at the very least some fuses.

I do not think I could have done that. I put matched the positive and negative of the old battery....

I did test the charging system- and the voltage remained between 13.6-13.9 for about 40 minutes (using the ODB to read voltage).

HOWEVER, the voltage decreases when I turn on the AirCon, highbeams and radio! 13.8v to 13.4v. What does that indicate?

I'm continuing this thread here- https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...fe-prog-2.html

If the battery was installed backwards it would try to start backwards not actually work.

Minor voltage drop when adding load is normal: voltage drop on the wires due to current.

Did you find the trans failsafe reset procedure?

I tried a couple procedures.
  1. Clearing the faults using the ODB tool (cleared it, but immediately cam eback on
  2. resetting the codes (in the cluster, test 19)
  3. battery disconnect and short process (https://dpaste.de/40wB).

Did you have another procedure to try?

In the new thread. A follow up to my post said it's not a valid procedure but it worked immediately for me when I got trans fail safe due to loose alt cable I'm working with a pretty small sample size (one)
