I think we are on the same page. My question is for the proponents of no change to gun laws. Do they agree there is a problem? If so, what do they suggest be done?

Proponents of the no change to gun laws and the NRA will only concede that Guns don't kill people, People Kill People. They will even argue that the mentally ill and mentally disturb have a right under the 2nd amendment to guns.

So...this thread started out as a simple question of "gun storage box" in an E53 morphed into the political gun debate?

You guys make me laugh...

Here's a thing from an Aussie... Why is your gun debate "political" as opposed to what we call "common effing sense"?

Everything to do with guns in the states is political. It's because our Constitution gives us the right to own fire arms. Changing that right takes an amendment to the Constitution. Getting an amendment is a HUGE deal.

About 139 million voted in the last election. There are somewhere around 55 million adult gun owners. About 5 million of those are NRA members. The candidates for office that are endorsed by the NRA highly influences the vote of all gun owners. Gun owners have taken the stand that any new gun control law is going to result in the government taking away their guns. To get the votes many candidates support no changes to gun laws. It's about votes, in many cases common sense or any consideration there might be a problem never enters into the equation, just votes. It's shameful.

Changes to gun laws do not require changing the second amendment. It takes only the required number of yes votes in House and Senate. The president can veto the law. Congress can over rule the veto. The law can be tested in the Supreme court as violating the 2nd amendment.

Meanwhile, people will just keep dying, and "thoughts and prayers" will still do absolutely nothing.
