Can't figure out what is wrong with my Power Folding Mirrors
First, I dunno how/why but the it kept folding outwards so I swapped the two wires that go in the electric motor and that was that. Now after I put everything back together, the driver side closes and stays closed but when it opens it goes beyond the normal position and stops working. Nothing seems broken as far as I can see and once I open and close the mirrors the driver side gets a wobbly and won't "click" into it's correct resting place. I spent several hours clocking the how the motor sits on the base with no luck. Anyone experience this? |

There is no clocking involved. The problem could be either micro switch though. If I remember correctly they are wired in series and the controlling micro processor sees them as one circuit and can't differentiate left and right. I have a feeling you might have to switch those motor wires back though. There are left and right motor/gear units BTW.

Can't figure out what is wrong with my Power Folding Mirrors
Micro switch was in tact and not the common failures I've seen.
The wires were definitely crossed because when I looked at the passenger side, the wires go over the electric motor as where mine were just connected from the bottom and now it folds the correct way just that when it folds back it go way too much. Here's a picture of what I mean of the wire going over the motor inside the housing:

It’s been a while since I looked at the mirror motor stuff, but those divets look big. But I want you to try something. They way these work is the number of clicks that the micro switch gets. There is a chance that the metallic arm on the microswitch is bent out of shape and it doesn’t register the second dip when opening. It may not be falling into the second dip. Bend that arm a bit to make it slightly more sharp. Not too sharp as the arm needs to be able to slide.
So let’s look at your motor pic. Basically micro switch sits right of green dot when closed. When you hit button to open, mirror starts moving, microswitch is compressed by area with green dot. Hold on left side of green dot is where the micro switch has to fall into to stop motor. If your microswitch arm is not getting in the dip, and letting go of micro button, mirror keeps moving. Also since you removed motor from mirror, you need to make sure you placed motor back in correctly. If it is wrong, microswitch will not sit in there correctly and never work. You can position motor in there few different ways.

If the wires where the wrong way you might have the wrong side gear unit. And like I said BOTH micro switches need to be working properly. I wonder if there is a left and right plastic ring ?

The ring you sent me did have LH engraved on it. Not sure if it has LH and RH though.
The previous owner tried to repair it or something hence it was missing the white ring. I'll take a look at the micro switch again but there is a possibility of the motor being the wrong one as it was a botch repair for sure. The reason I kept trying to clock it was because when you fold it manually with your hands it kind of clicks into place. For example the right mirror, I can fold it with my hands and when I unfold it it clicks/pops into it's normal position and stays there. Sort if locks itself into place. I fiddled around with it some and I kept clocking the motor where it would click into place just like the right side but the moment I push the button to fold them electronically it closes and stays closed. But push the button again it opens up all the way 180 degrees lol So have to open the window and pull it back. But once I do that it no longer clicks back into it's normal position and stays all wobbly. The problem with the is that every bump or opening closing of the door keeps moving my mirrors. The other ring I have says RH. The right hand unit that you have in the pic has the red and green wires on the right way so other side needs to be reversed. I can't remember which, but either both red or both green need to facing the front when on the car.

So the motor case has four posts at the bottom and the mirror base has two raised dimples but the motor can be mounted in many positions.
Are you saying it doesn't matter how it sits as long as the white nylon washer sits/faces the micro switch correctly? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

The four posts are offset and will only fit one way AFAI remember. The extra kinda tab thing on the bottom is an indiactor as well.

It can fit in all four ways possible so I don't know how it was before.
