Yes because they have the uniformed look with no hotspots.

Let's get my threat back in track lol

How to turn off turn signals only during parking lights mode and on with headlights.

It occurs to me that you do not need an android HU for this.

The Riesler USB interface and the I-Bus App can be connected to the harness and powered/interfaced by any android device with a full USB interface.

You don't *have* to have an android radio to program this with the pair of any android hardware with USB and I-Bus software.

Hmmm, so like any Android tablet with USB port?! Or at least a USB to a micro usb adapter.... I may try this as both the iBus and Android tablet can be had cheap enough.

Have you figured out how all the country specific coding comes into play? Using Dummy I found the country specific stuff pretty confusing. Some options aren't available or don't work if coded depending on which country the LCM thinks you are in or not in and depending on what other options have been coded. It might be less confusing with just NCS expert but I think a person would need to make a chart to keep track. Anyway, the relay idea almost sounds better because it leaves all related coding options on the table.

I haven't done it, but the Android radios are really just tablets with USB ports tacked on the back. When I installed mine, I wasn't worried about making the IBus wire tap serviceable, but you could.

If you ran the USB open into the glove box, you could get a USB extension cable and diddle from the comfort of your seat.

Yeah, might get a cheap tablet with a otg cable. Maybe even the Amazon fire 7 when it goes on sale again.

You are reading my mind PH. I was thinking the same exact thing. I think the android HU does not actually send messages but is actually doing the coding. Once it is coded, I am thinking I could simply remove the android tablet and maybe the Resler IBus interface all together. This is what I am looking into, I hope it works. My Resler interface should be here in a week or so and I will just plug it into the 12V/GND/IBus CD changer connection in the rear and code from there, hopefully. Once I get the IBus interface, I'll need to buy the license. Is the license a OTA upgrade or a code that gets manually entered into the app?

My biggest problem is my X5 is non Nav AND DSP. Probably the worst configuration for adding a android HU system. So many choices but all for non Nav/non DSP, Nav/DSP but of course mine is the one that is the problem child...

I am still on the fence of which model I would prefer anyway, I am just not comfortable with the tablet look or even anything that varies from the stock appearance of my dash. I have read and read the posts everyone has on different opinions and my OCD just keeps kicking me straight upside the head.

Thank you for taking the time to speak with me on my journey to just get my halos lit like I want, you have been very helpful.

Yes, I tried Europe and Denmark specific setting, still no halos only. I tried with NCS Expert, BMW Scanner 1.4, it just doesn't seem to be there but your earlier post is spot on. If the android app can code it, it HAS to be possible...

The wiring in of the relay is a last resort for me. That is exactly how I did it on my E46 but then again, they didn't come with halos, I added the Weisslicht aftermarket set. They come on with the keyfob entry (wired into the interior illumination) and also whenever key is on (wired into ECU). That is what I am trying to do through coding on the X5.

Ah! The *back* of the car! That is a GREAT idea! I hadn't considered it since I connected mine in the front with the radio swap. Your idea is WAY better if you're not messing with the wires behind the radio.

You buy the license by providing your VIN at purchase. I forget his cadence, but shortly after that, the app will check OTA for your VIN. You'll need WiFi or cellular. If your VIN is there, your app will unlock and you're off to the races.

But this is weird- I *swear* that I have selected Denmark or Germany, or something in the app for DRLs. That's what's worked, I think. We're headed out for lunch, so I will play with it and see if I can get a pic.

I wonder if I could just have the Resler interface plugged into the tablet in my office while I wait for the OTA or does it also need to be plugged into the IBus of the X5 verify the VIN though its transmitted IBus information?

I took a quick look at that Reiser interface but I don't see how you come to the conclusion that it does any coding? As far as I can tell it only puts the signal from a usb device onto the Ibus. If it can't be coded with NCS expert then I would say it is only because the LCM doesn't have the ability to turn on the Halos separately because it lacks the physical input from the ign. switch to do that, which is where putting the signal on the bus comes in. The interface would need to see the ignition switch and respond with sending the right signal to the LCM so I think that a device would be needed, not just the interface.
