Headlight switch w/ LED indicator

What is the difference between the headlight switches that have the GREEN LED indicator vs the ones that don't?

If you have adaptive headlights are the switches supposed to have the LED indicator?

I've noticed mine does not have the LED and I do have adaptive lights and even though I see them working (swivels with steering input) every time I run PA Soft I get fault codes saying they aren't working. Something about telegram speed etc.

Thinking the light switch might be at fault?

I'm not sure. Mine has the led on the switch and are adaptive headlights and are HID. I also have a 06 at the moment for maintenance at my house and it does not has the led light on the switch. The headlights looks the same as mine but no HID or the angel lights dont turn on.

Based on information from the parts database...using the VIN from my 06 X5 4.4...there are two switches in the illustration (where there's a total of six different switches) that are usable (#3 & #6). And there are THREE different part nbrs that can be selected that depends on how the vehicle is optioned: regular headlamps/automatic xenon headlamps/adaptive xenon headlamps.

When I go to the owners manual...it kinda mentions that the green LED (for the automatic headlights) flashes when the adaptive feature is malfunctioning (WHAT??? ).

So the question I have is...those that DON'T have the green LED...do you have the automatic headlight option?

When you google search using the two part nbrs (for #6 in the diagram above)...the first number that ends in 777 appears NOT to have the green LED:

{BMW part nbr 61 31 6 909 777}

But the part nbr that ends in 243 appears to HAVE the green LED:

{BMW part nbr 61 31 6 930 243}

Yes my car has automatic and adaptive lights. When I bought the car, the headlight switch never had the LED.

But like I mentioned, both auto and adaptive features work.

Now I have the Euro light switch for rear fog lights but no longer interested in this mod so I will try out the switch with LEDs on it.

Interesting outcome...it appears then that you could have either. What factors did BMW determine as to which X5 got the switch with the green LED and which did not?

Based on the parts database...it says that either of the #6 switches is suitable for "automatic light". And you along with other forum members say that they have adaptive lights as well and don't have the green LED.

What a pickle....but I guess if you have auto & adaptive xenon headlights...it would nice to have the green LED to help identify when the adaptive headlights are malfunctioning.

I have adaptive Xenons and originally I had the #6 switch with green LED and when I retrofitted my rear fog switch to the #5 switch, I made sure to get it with the green LED as well.

Maybe they just ran out or grabbed the wrong one during assembly from the parts bin.

I can confirm the switch w/o LED also works for adaptive lights as it did in mine but just ordered the LED version.

With or without rear fog button. I have my front fog only adaptive switch just sitting here...
