The great tire hunt. Come join the fun!

I need to put tires on the 2001 X5 3.0 I bought.

I want something aggressive but silent.

This is turning into a nightmare because of the wheel size on the sport model I have.

I need 255/55R18's

Most of the tires I wanted to run are not made in this size.

I can get blizzaks which are a little on the aggressive side but from the reviews are pretty soft to run as a year round tire and it only snows like 2 days a year here if we are lucky.

I need something that can handle mild mud and such so no straight up street tires.

Any help would be appreciated.

One question for anyone running the blizzak tires. Are you running them year round?

Have you looked into Hankook tires?

Ive run those before and they don't age well. Bouncing and belt separation are my experiences on those.

Continental offers the Terrain Contact in that size. I'm somewhat partial to Conti's, so that would probably be my choice. I just searched that size on Discount Tire's site. My youngest works there, so I'm also partial to them. Great company, BTW.

The specs look good. Reviews were good too other than some noted they don't last that long.

Not sure about how they would do in the mud but should do great on the road. I'll add them to the list for now. Thanks.

Another option is to buy some 17" wheels used, sell the 18's probably for more than the 17's cost, then you'll have a wider variety of tires to choose from and they'll be substantially cheaper. That's probably what I'd ACTUALLY do if I were you. Higher profile tires are going to work better in the mud too.
