Hi Dave

Thanks for responding. Yep it is an old thread, I've been trawling through lots of them trying to find the solution to my 2-1 bump. I've always suspected it could probably be a software issues as its completely gone when if i switch to sport mode on the transmission. I recently installed some BMW software (INPA, WinKFP) to troubleshoot my rain light sensor as the rain sensor stopped working. I'm learning my way around INPA and was trying to find out what version of software my transmission has and how I might update it. That's what lead me to this thread.
Any chance you can help me out with finding out my software number for my transmission? I can't seem to locate the assembly number, i can only find the BMW part number. I'll post the pics from INPA.
Cheers
Nial

What you are looking for will be called an "Integration level" or i-level for the transmission (EGS). Not sure how to find it in INPA, I always use ISTA-d or ISTA-p for module integration changes. I updated mine at some point in the past but don't remember the latest number. Could scan the truck for you if you need it to compare to yours once you find it.

As for your 2-1 bump it's unlikely to be a programming "issue." Likely your seals and/or solenoids are loosened up and the fluid isn't holding pressure anymore. Cured 2 E53 ZF 6HPs with a full transmission service (tube/bridge seal, mechatronic sleeve, pan/filter, and new fluid). 1 of them had a reverse to drive delay in shifting along with a slight 2-1 hard shift. The other had a HARD 2-1 slam. Felt like being rear ended badly.

I still can't locate the assembly number in INPA. I haven't got ISTA so not sure how else i could find my correct assembly number.
I did find my BMW part number (7544720) in the DAT file and used that to locate a ZUSB number (7549968).

Using that ZUSB number 7449968 I connected to WinKFP to see if it would show me what update is available. I entered the VIN and changed to KWP2000* and this is what it should me as available. I didn't proceed with it as I want to make sure I have the correct one before doing it. I'll post the update it showed was available.

The 2-1 bump/slam does feel like someone rear ending you. Its very predicable in my car once it was warmed it. Not sure why it doesn't happen in Sport mode, maybe it doesn't change back down to 1? I had the fluid changed about 5years/50 000km ago. Hopefully he changed the other parts back then but i don't know for sure.

You need to service the trans for the 2-1 bump, fluids, seals.

it 'doesn't' do it in sport mode because it shifts to 1 before coming to a stop, unlike in drive, where it shifts to 1 at almost stop.

It is not a software issue.

check transmission adaptation values. anything over 200 is an indication of worn out bores in the valve body and pressure regulator defects. Requires removal of the valve body to check with a vacuum measurement. Oversized spool valves are available for ZF6 trans

Thanks for the responses. Looks like I need to find somewhere in Brisbane, Australia that can do a fluid change and replace the seals for me as that's beyond my ability.

Are these the values you were referring to?
