I'm not convinced the adaption process is an absolute requirement. Sure it is, if you want the trans to behave perfectly an hour after you reset it but in most cases it will re-adapt over the following days/weeks of normal use.

Mine did. Twice. And it was days, not weeks...

Good point. I figured it must have a way of working itself out if it's reset and the procedure isn't followed.

Again, this is from the view of a shop owner, needing to present a well-sorted transmission to a paying customer. I totally get that, as well as the DIY owner that wants to sort the trans adaptations as quickly as possible.

But they will sort themselves over time anyway, and will continue to do so, even after the above procedure.

The good take-away in the above video is monitoring the adaptation values over time - although I'm guessing this is more than most owners (or shops) will likely ever do.
