Well it seems like it's coming from the middle of the top of the engine. Which makes no sense to me.

I wasn't able to snap a shot of the smoke I saw while I was operating the "Bastard Bong" but it was coming out of the middle towards the back.

I couldn't see smoke coming directly from any source but it was there. Just sort of lingering around the intake runners maybe escaping from the back of the engine and wafting up?

Using one of those little mirrors I tried to get a peek back there at the vacuum lines and those caps. I figured since I gave it the ol' reach around maybe something wasn't sitting properly. Nope, no smoke coming from back there either.





So I'm staring at the engine thinking to myself if it's not coming from the back or any of the hoses where else could it be? It's gotta be a gasket right? That or the intake is cracked

I'm still wondering how CYL 2 and 6 are being singled out. Ruling out everything else except the injector being replaced...well there's a gasket between the intake manifold and engine block right? So I'm thinking if that gasket was compromised it could possibly affect the individual cylinders right?

I did some quick googling and didn't come across many posts with people experiencing a similar issue but I still feel like this could very much be the culprit.

While we're at it what else is a gasket that hasn't been replaced...throttle body housing...even though I don't think that would contribute to specific cylinder misfires, we'll just go ahead and get us a new one.

I felt confident enough in my theory that before long a new intake manifold gaskets and throttle body gasket were on the way!

I've used them before and the UI is straight up craigslist v1.0

I guess I got a little spoiled with dumping a bunch of pictures and then coming by later and picking out my links in IMGUR, even though I can't stand the fact they made it such a stupid procedure to make a folder. Which I have yet to be able to pull off

I'm guessing it's some kind of temporary glitch because as far as I can tell all the images are still showing up (at least for me) but I get a generic error page

BTW in case anyone is curious,

there has been NO white smoke at all while all this other crap has been going on, so I might be willing to say that the CCV was in fact the problem and has been resolved...maybe

With fresh intake manifold gaskets and a throttle body gasket in hand I've been waiting for weather that didn't involve snow or temperatures below zero and today was the day.

Replacing the throttle body gasket was simple





While I was taking stuff apart I noticed that a hose from the CCV already had signs of mayo in it so I wanted to clean as much of it out but I didn't want to remove any parts of it for fear of breaking something.

Yes I know it's a terrible picture





I figure if I take the hose off from the bottom of the turbine to the dipstick return and disconnect the hose coming from the valve cover that feeds into the top of the turbine I should be able to free up whatever started to build up blowing some air through it.

I was right...Too right!

There was ALL KINDS OF crap that was coming out of there and this was less than 1000km after it was refreshed. I wasn't expecting to have that much build up so quickly but once I was in there I had to finish the job.

The next couple hours I spent blowing crap out of the CCV. The technique I settled on was spraying brake cleaner though the hose, wait........and then blow air through there expelling the crap from the bottom of the turbine.

Unfortunately my air compressor tank is tiny and puts out the CFM equivalent to a butterfly sneezing so this took a while waiting on the thing to refill.

Once I was satisfied with the lack of gravy coming out of the bottom it was on to the intake manifold gasket.
