Either cable held will cause the problem. I think it's designed that way so if either handle is held up you can't interfere with the lock actuator (as everyone knows the passenger door will not unlock if the passenger jumps the gun and pulls outer handle and holds it while you unlock).

This is the same concept interfering in this case.

I tell people to test both inside and outside door release befowe reassembly do to either will prevent the other from unlatching.

thanks a lot for this quick fix for the secondary lock motor! I figured my locking mechanism was kaputt, but it turned out the secondary locking motor was stuck. I'll see if I can source one new or used soon... probably with a new locking mechanism as well since it's not working very smoothly
