You may want to look into HJS cats, made in Germany and best of best.

I've used them on my M5, 540 and have them on my 532M now.

Pricey, but much less than OEM BMW.

If you're interested, PM me and I'll look it up for you.

I had to order them from Germany and I have some reputable sources I'll be glad to share with you.
PM sent and thanks for the offer. I woke up this morning to the reality and thought I had a nightmare. So the HJS cats will change the sound of my X5 4.4 to better than factory? It has the N62 engine with factory exhausts - all stock.

Adding my sympathies. A friend's son had his stolen off his Chevy truck last spring near Houston. No fun at all!

I've spent some time on the Bellevue campus. Met some great people there.

Yeah it’s been an issue in Houston.

I have look for cats for my car on Amazon and if I found one with a good enough review that would fit in my car I will definitely consider a third-party option option

The other option if you can find someone parting one out is to pick up a set of used manifolds. Probably the cheapest option, but much harder with the current inflated value of cats. (Also not entirely legal. You're not supposed to install used cats for reason that don't really make sense compared to most of the new aftermarket options.)

Yeah, I want to flip this predicament into an opportunity to get my beloved X5 sounding better. I'm interested in the hjs cats and PM'ed bmw540san.

Yes, I got your PM.
Do you or anyone else know the tubing ID?
Several HJS cat models may fit as they are designed to fit multiple ID's but if I know the correct ID I can point you out toward particular HJS part # and you may not have to cut any material.

Here is my latest build with HJS cats:
