Transmission Mount Tool

I have an '06 3.0 and it's time to change the transmission mount bushing after 266,000 miles. Just received the bushing, but the only tool I can find to replace it is $129. For a tool I'll only use once, so, before I buy one I thought I'd ask if anyone in the SF Bay Area has one they'd rent or sell me? Otherwise I'll have to buy one and try and sell it. TIA

I haven't tried it, but I'd first try to do it with a universal ball joint kit that you can borrow from your local auto parts store. Usually, with a little creativity, you can figure out a way to get it done. I replaced all the subframe bushings on my e46 that way. It wasn't the best tool for the job, but it worked.

AM.

andrewwynn will become famous soon enough
Similar thought: the bushing press for the rear ball joint worked perfectly to press new bushings into the tension struts. I had to use a smaller diameter bolt like 1/2" vs. 14mm the tool came with.

You can usually cobble something together. Here are a couple of examples on my E61 and E70. First was using a "rent-a-tool" from Oreilly and the second I went and bought a bushing tool from Harbor Freight (I forget the cost, but it wasn't much). E61 was done in place and the E70 was done on a trans jack.

I know the setups look goofy... but accomplished their tasks in a matter of minutes.
