I wonder if these torque converters can be cleaned out the old school way by drilling a hole in the side, flushing then installing a short bolt tacked and ground down. (Balancing required)

Probably could be but what would be the point? A worn TC lockup clutch is a typical cause for total gearbox failure.

Yeah it looks like one has updated labeling. The barcode numbers on the back match. Napa has it for 6.49 a qt so autozone matched the price and let me take the gallons which were priced at $35 each. I have maxlife in my E38 which works well. The import seemed to have almost identical specs as the ZF fluid the last I compared spec sheets.

Gotcha.

I wonder if the import is as thin as ZF LF6 (your 4.6 probably uses LF5?). That's why I stopped using it. In fresh transmissions it works great, but anything that's seen 100k+ without a service and I've had no luck with it. Almost always end up throwing in the MaxLife.
