Yep done.

Today I bought another bottle of Lifeguard 6 from my local BMW dealer (same bottle just a BMW sticker and part number).

I jacked the car up again and used a level on the sump to get it perfect. The car was warmed up and around 42-44 degrees C I opened the fill port and got another 600ml in before it started running out. So total fill amount around 7.5 liters. I closed the plug up and went for a drive again.

Honestly all shifts are very nice now except the coming slowly to a stop where when the fluid is warm (70 degrees plus) I get the thump from 2nd back into first.

Sometimes it doesn't do it but about 90% of the time it does with varying degrees of jolt, sometimes quite a thud, other times quite gentle.

I also noticed the more gentle I come to a stop the worse it is. If I brake a little bit harder when coming to a stop it isn't noticeable?

The ex BMW tech I spoke with, who now works in the front office at the service department, said to readapt both the gearbox AND engine adaptions, and that it would take about 200-300km to work out the new adaptions.

Does this sound right?

Cheers guys!

Yep, sounds right to me regarding gear box readapt/relearn. Do the readaptation procedure or do it the hard way by driving the vehicle for a period of time.

I'm torn between doing another full reset of adaptions on the highway and doing the 9 run procedure or leaving it and seeing if it improves.

So an update,

Shifts continuing to improve by themselves, the downshift from 2nd to 1st still needs work but also not as bad.

Good to hear! I hope the 2-1 works itself out. For me, with only 47.5k miles, I probably didn't need to do the solenoids, but it was easy enough to do while the valve body was out.

Thanks Haigha.

In Australia the solenoid kit is pretty expensive at around $900 so hopefully I don't need it.

I've got around 210,000 km on mine.

If I thought about it I probably should have at least pulled them all out and cleaned the screens on them.

Oh well.

You can replace just one solenoid if you can confirm just that one failed.

I was ready to do that on mine before i found out the electrical plug was filled with rusty water.

Was a different model transmission, and with no transmission splash shield like our diesels....

Ahhh ok.

Shifts great everywhere now apart from when warm coming to a stop and going 2nd 1st. It's not there when cold, only after it's warm and in city traffic which is annoying as I'm right in the city and average about 15-20mph usually so lots of start stop traffic.

I still haven't done another reset and followed the procedure on the FCPeuro site.

Edit: manually shifting is fine. No idea why it comes practically to a stop in 2nd then jolts itself into first. If I brake harder no problem, only when gently rolling to a stop.
