After viewing this video, the "pilot mod" is uncapping an unused (on M54; he says its used used for FPR vacuum on M52) vacuum port on the CCV itself and running that to one of the little ports on the back of the intake. No idea if this what the P/O did.

He also has quite the diatribe against bypassing the system, which made sense.

The Febi replacement CCV I got has this thick rubber shell around it held on with what look like small rubber bands, and there's no vacuum port on it. Guess I'll tackle this job once it gets a little warmer here.
