Sorry about your scare. Indeed, nothing can stop you on ice....my wife hit a long patch of sheer ice last year and hit a van crawling ahead of her. Lots of repair work, but I have forgotten it ever happened now when I'm in the truck.

I totally agree... AWD drive is no help when stopping!! Tires are the most important thing for safe bad weather driving. And down a hill, on black ice, even good snow tires may not make much of a difference. Too bad you didn't have time to pop her in reverse and nail the throttle!! I've seen that trick work before...

Anyway, sorry about your X, Rob. Looks pretty minor though (and fortunately, your Euro-clears seem to have survived!), so I'm sure she'll be good as new in no time!

Wow. I know how you feel. Mine is having surgery as we speak but I agree with Aaron on this one as well. Not that this is you but I was just talking to the CEO the other night about how I have to check myself when i'm driving the X. Sometime i also have a false sense of security and that has to stop. Hope the surgery goes well.

Rob, sorry to see you've had an off. That's why I drive mine on Toyo Proxes during the winter. The Diamaris have very little grip in cold weather. When on snow/ice I tend to drive with HDC which can help greatly, particularly if the the road slopes heavily (you adjust the sensitivity of HDC with the cruise control buttons). Otherwise a little cadence braking can help, but it's best not to get it out of shape in the first place on those tyres in snow. You'd be amazed how much of a difference tyres makes to the traction/grip in snow.

Snow tires are a must for driving in snow. Makes a big difference. I have the Dunlop Wintersport and have played with my X5 in snow, no problems.

Ouch man... sorry to hear and see about it. At least everyone is ok and you'll have your X back on the road in no time. From the looks of it, at least the bus thing was there or else it looked like that tree may have hurt a little more. Hope everything works out.
