still having problems. I did pick up a Crank Position Sensor, and installed it last week. Seems to be about the same.

It has actually been better since Friday (only 2 non starts), but I think it's because of the rain, not because of the CPS. Seems to work really well when it's rainy and a bit colder.

Next step is to try replacing the DME relay. Probably won't have a chance to stop by the dealer until later in the week though. I'll let you know how it goes.

Mike,
When you replace the relay check for water in the E-box. The easiest way is to look at the connectors for the DME and the AGS. If there is any discoloration water has been there. To remind you I found water in the connectors for the AGS. I took it apart and warmed it with a hair dryer then sealed the box with RTV. If you find water stains I highly recommend you do the same. Then I replaced the DME relay (blue in front of box) sealed the E-box and closed it up.

I sent you an email about the procedure to seal the E-box. As a reminder: pull the rubber grommets out of their slots and run a large bead of RTV in the slot. Push the grommets back in. Some RTV should sqeeze out. Then turn the lid upside down. Run a small bead in the groove around the lid. It just needs to be in the groove. It doesn't need to be flowing out of it. Put the lid back on the box. Make sure all four hinges are engaged when you put the lid back on. Tighten the four 5mm allen head screws. Put the air deflector back together. Done

I hope this works for you. I have not had any problems since.

SS

So what is the status of everyone here... I am still living with my problem, but I really have noticed that when it is wet outside that I have a much better chance of the X5 starting. It is only the wetness that helps, not the cold, because it has failed to start for me a few times in our lovely about 28 degree weather.

Steve you still not having any problems?

I have noticed that i do need to replace the unloader relay, but i just need to go and get it. My stereo should not be playing when the motor is cranking... It doesn't do it all the time though, and this still wouldn't explain why the X dies while I am driving down the road.

Since my Nov 17th post I haven't missed a beat. Starts first time every time. I know Mike tried the CPS without any help. That makes me believe the DME relay has been the cause. I changed both at the same time.

The DME relay is the blue one next to the green unloader relay in the engine E-box. I'm sure sealing the box didn't hurt either.

Angry Still doesn't always start!!!

So I replaced the relays in the front of the box. They were supposed to be one for the dme and one for the unloader. went to the stealer and bought one of each, blue and green. replaced then both today and it started right up, then worked great for about a half a day. Then it failed to start for about 4 times. I was supposed to be the front ones right?

Yup. The two relays in the front of the box.

I think that leaves you two items:
1.Bad connection. Check the engine ground and the connections at the starter.
2.Ignition switch

Still is a POS!!! I have a friend that had an oldsmobile that had the same problem and it turned out being the crank position sensor, so i think someday i will replace that. Hopefully sometime soon, but not in the next week i think, we are supposed to have some nasty weather coming in.

Nothing new here, still won't start. Have to take it into the stealer for something else, so I may give them another shot at it. Hellz, you might want to think twice about the CPS. I replaced mine, and it made no difference. I think it's related to the cps, but it has to do with the connection rather than the part.

Ok, here's the latest, I replaced the DME relay as well as the unloader relay and I'm still having the problem. I checked for any signs of water in the E-Box and there were none. No discoloration of the relays and no water marks inside the box. I'm all out of ideas.

One other thing I noticed is that it seems to be having an exceptionally hard time starting with the cold dry weather we've had in the past week. Just an observation
