Dead Pixels on MID?

I can find quite a lot of information on getting the instrument cluster replaced when there are some dead pixels, but what about the Multi Informational Display? I have lots of dead and fading pixels on the MID that I'd like to fix. Can anyone help?

MID is part of the dials, etc. cluster. They replace the whole unit.

Do a search. There was info posted recently about a BMW NA assist for this wereyou only pay for 0.5 -1 hour labor to have it replaced. They pick up the tab for the part. It should be within the last month of posts.

Found it! http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e53-forum/...st-pixels.html

Scroll down to SeattleTopaz's post.

Pixels in Console out

Check VDORepair.com. The problem is poor contacts. They repair the problem where even the BMW replacement is prone to failure.

I overnighted my instrument cluster to VDORepair today. I will post result. Removal required a #10 torx wrench and about 7 minutes. Removal was as simple as could be. Galls me to think that BMW wanted $1000 to replace it. For less than half that I should get a better rebuilt returned to me. (Assuming VDORepair works as advertised).

Hi all, Anybody have a DIY on replacing the instrument cluster yourself? I have the same fading/disappearing pixels issue with my '02 X5. I was told that my instrument cluster has to be replaced. '02 3.0 with 95K miles. I have tracked MPG, every expense, etc. on a spreadsheet since day one. Now, half the pixels are missing and I can't get accurate odometer readings, my trip meter can't be read, and the outside temperature might as well be non-existant. Very expensive car to own and maintain! How much is the cluster part?

I am the O.P and I was able to get it replaced by BMW for $36.00! Seriously - it is the route to go.
