That picture will be worth submitting to Roundel mag for publishing. Have a good camera handy at 300k.

how about wheel bearings? I had to change the rear driver side bearing.
Did you new spark plugs and O2 sensors at 100? I usually change the spark plugs about every 60,000 or so. Just to make me sleep better at night. And I have change the O2 sensors a couple of times but only when they start throwing codes.
what did you change in the suspension? Suspension wise just normal wear and tear, thrust arm bushings, end links. And once I changed the rear control arm because I could not get it to align right. The bush gave out and you can't press another one in because it's apart of the control arm.
I am debating on changing the fluid again for the transmission. I bought the filter and pan gasket but I don't know. Everything is shifting just fine.

How do you know when to change the timing chain/water pump. whats the secret for getting 193k miles? Do you service your car at bmw for all scheduled inspections?

Need to wake up this thread!! Probably one of the most important ones as it's why most visit the site. "How long will I get out of my X5 and how...?" I'm up to 197K. Just replaced a leaking coolant hose (heater) two days ago which means next weekend I'm replacing the rest . Might add the water pump to the list as well this coming weekend just in case.

My 2002 X5 3.0 has 138,000 miles and going strong. I bought it with 82,000 in Feb 2009. Sludged engine, clean it with many changes of mobil 1 at 7500 oci. Changed the (original) trans fluid with mobil1 at 93K I'm changing it again in 2 weeks, don't know if water pump has been changed.

Going strong except for electrical glitches. replace the main computer at about 100,000. the ABS controller replaced at 105k.

Now I have a clunk coming from the suspension , I think its the bushings. money.

I plan to keep this machine past 300,000. It runs and feels like a new car. I also pull a utillity trailer, Motorcycle trips 3K to 4K at a time, lumber hauling, yard work, garden tractor... I treat it like a pick up truck, then clean it and its ready for going out on the town!!!

Wallyx5, go ahead and change that trans fluid. I changed mine at 93k, 138k now and going strong. Mobil1 trans fluid is an acceptable substitute for the BMW flavor. I can't get the BMW fluid... the dealer tells me there is no retail package. They get it in 50 gallon drums. and they won't sell me 3 gallons for a drain and fill...

I change mine 3 times, running a few miles in between, to get MOST of the old fluid out. seems to work fine.

Just make sure you use a genuine BMW filter. The o-ring gasket on aftermarket filters won't fit well and will cause all sort of shifting issues.
