Great thread!! Having just bought a used 2003 3.0i Sport (72,000 miles) I was worried about how it would last. Have the manual transmission so hopefully not too much to go wrong. Only problems at the moment are a couple of broken plastic catches and the air conditioning sometimes makes a noise like an airplane.

That airplane noise is the worst!!!! I took it to BMW 6 times for that, they finally replaced the whole damn thing under warrantee... is it a wining kind of droning noise??

Manual tranny must be a blast BTW!

Wanted to bump this thread and see how everyone has been doing?

I'm at 111,855 miles on a 2002 3.0i. So far just routine type stuff replaced (besides aux fan under warranty) but now need a new steering rack at some point. Wheel bearings are shot too, but so far so good. Fingers crossed!

How's everyone elses X?

Also, right cat converter needed to be replaced, but my O2 sensors were gone, prolly should have replaced the O2 sensor @ 100K miles....now, I'm not burning oil anymore like I did since the bad O2 sensors was making my engine run richer than it should....No cold weather related problems (e.g. oil separator) due to our local climate is quite mild.

Already went through 4 window regulators....but other than that, the X5 has been fine. The X5 runs much better with better fuel mileage since the cat was replaced.
I can understand O2 sensor replacement increasing mileage, but not replacing a cat. How would that work??

Glad to see quite a few X5 with that kinda mileage.

Just replace the WP on my 4.4i with 58k (well the upper hose radiator crack so I decide to overhaul the coolant system minus the radiator). FYI, the old WP with composite looks good, no play in the bearings, and turn smooth. Also the old thermostat looks clean, no rust, no gunk in it.

Hope it'll make it to 100k and beyond, just got back from Seattle autoshow no cars I like is under $60k so have to keep this one going for a few more years.
