Rewriting required due to all the keys having already been ordered from the dealership or because all keys have to be specially programmed no matter what? I just assumed I could order a key, get it cut, do the pushing bids the lock/unlock procedure and I'd be off and running...no?

In my case that is true and he cleared the 7 other slots for me (said they were full and a new dealer key would have been useless) but he also said keys not sourced from BMW via their process had to be manually added in the manner I posted.
I am not an expert and am only repeating what the guy that took my eBay keys (2) that appeared to be useless prior to finding him and made them function. |

It's really common knowledge that any BMW 3 button remote used on the e46/e38/e39/e53 and uses the same RF (radio frequency) that your car uses (either 315 MHz or 433 MHz)...can be programmed to lock/unlock & arm/disarm (FZV & DWA) another BMW model that uses the same...BUT...the key will not be able to START your car unless it has the SAME ISN (individual serial number) burnt into the EWS transponder inside the key that is burnt into the EWS control module & DME/ECU. This information is not coded with the BMW GT-1 or MoDiC or DIS...this information requires equipment that can read, retrieve, then write this information from your exisiting control modules, then burn it into a blank EEPROM or re-writeable chip that will fit inside your key. (see post #26 for information how the EWS control module/DME/keys are initialized as they come off the assembly line. The BMW 3 button remote key contains THREE features (which is covered back in post #26):

That was my understanding.
I called 20 ads from Craigs List to find the guy that did mine. It was well worth it. He did the two keys I got for under 50 and while he was here did a key for our Mazda 6 for 280. |

This is their latest reply...
"we use aftermarket key shell with used electronic inside if that's not a problem for you. If it's cut, then I'll have to charge $5 on top*for the key being returned cut. I think door locks should work and I have instruction to program it." - from eBay seller key_starz or [email protected]. My first thought was about the battery failing earlier than expected due to being used.

Keylessking is who I got mine from. They didn't have the BMW logo but I got two for 6.00 shipped. They are ok quality and work.
