How about you consider this. I have a feeling you have the 2004 oddities that people constantly point out. 2004 was a transition year to the facelift, and lots of funky shit with your year. I also don’t have a problem sourcing parts for mine, and all the stuff I ordered from the site you linked, has been a direct replacement to what i have. So let’s look at this link. https://www.thectsc.com/products/oil...ti-190-61.html Read the contents of the kit. You see that huge ass o-ring. Yea. That’s the filler plug o-ring. For this giant plug that goes through the pan. You see how it’s called the filler plug sealing ring. Now do you see that the filter kit with gasket, but no pan. Yea that’s what every 4.8is is supposed to have. Other than strange ones made during facelift conversion years 03-04. The one you have is and integrated filter with pan. Yours might look something like this. https://www.thectsc.com/products/oil...ai-187-61.html Gonna go do me. Also your transmission may not be original.

I do have an 04 and it is the original tranny.
Dunno what to tell u. Had a metal pan, changed it to a plastic one. Filled it from the side. Everything works great. Done it a few times. The metal pan is def deeper, and I can see how filling it that way works too, but that shit doesn't work with the plastic pan, and I've yet to see a 4.8iS without a side fill plug, I looked at several transmission when I thought mine was shot. Ended up rebuilding the valve body and everything is perfect. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Reviving an old thread as I also have watched a shed load of DIY YouTube videos on servicing the worn rubber components in the ZF transmission and pretty much all of those show a plastic pan and a refill port in the side of the unit.
I have a 2005 3.0d and a metal pan so I was like ![]() Reading this thread, members Wpoll and SlickGt1 are correct. For metal pans you fill through the actually large hole in the pan. I've since found official BMW info to confirm. I hope this helps others. Cheers ![]() |
