It is worth trying another phone since sometime the phone's bluetooth is not working well.

If the phone bluetooth already connects then disconnect, try to switch off the car then on again.

If the phone has found BMWXXXX bluetooth, then found nothing at next attempt of pairing, try to restart the phone.

I figured out why my Bluetooth doesn't work....

I came across this link... SI B84 13 04 and came across this...

"For E46/E83/E85/E53 vehicles produced
between 3/2004 and 8/2004, are equipped with a
TCU that does not support Bluetooth®. On these
vehicles the TCU can be replaced at the
customer's expense with a 2005 MY TCU.
Cradles may not be added to these vehicles
because of wiring incompatibility.

Please disregard the Owner's Manual insert,
shown to the left, indicating Bluetooth®
functionality. The hardware in these vehicles will
not work correctly."

To the OP...looks like we're going to have to upgrade to either a MY 2005 TCU with Bluetooth or a stand alone Bluetooth module.

Very interesting SIB, I have known people with 04s to successfully get their phone to pair if it came with a PK on the bluetooth card, so that is bizarre. My car did not come with a PK, so I had to do the retrofit to a combo module. If you upgrade the TCU to a BMW Assist/Bluetooth Combo module, you most likely also will need to wire in a bluetooth antenna. The whole retrofit cost me about 800 bucks in parts.

Until new phones comes out and isn't compatable with this $800 retro-fit and then we have to spend another $600 for a newer ULF module.
Too bad BMW cannot get us a Firmware update.

BMW can deliver TCU firmware updates through the dealer I believe...

Also, I got the most recent TCU available, so hopefully it will last me for a few years at least.

Hmmm! Are you saying BMW (dealership) is able to update my 6th generation Bluetooth UFL module to the current 13th generation UFL? The 13th generation is the only ULF that works with the iphone!!!

I have no idea, all I know is that what I got was a TCU, and it does work with the iPhone. Also, my past TCU was given firmware updates via the dealer.
