ou cant buy a "turbo kit" for that. That is what we had in ours for the mustangs. We are a dealer for master power turbos and we just bought some stainless bends and fabbed the kit ourselves. There is also a company out there called mega squirt which is a very inexpensive stand alone system such as fast or bigstuff. You have to have some kind of electronics to control the timing and fuel for a boosted application. You are quite a ways from me, but im sure there are some race shops in your area that could give you a quote on a custom turbo kit. The 70mm is around 700 dollars for the turbo alone. What shop wouldnt want their name on a custom turbo kit for an x5? BTW, no problem on the help.

This is really just superchargers but a good read. The way to save money and really have it like you want it is to fab it up like you want it.

excuse my ignorance but up until a few weeks ago i had never made a performance mod to any car. at this point the most complicated mod i have done is installing and AFE CAI which a child could do. i assume by fab it up you mean build it from scratch. how do i find someone to build a reliable custom turbo charger for me for $2,800?

Yes, we built the kits from scratch(fabbed up). You will have more than that in it if you pay someone b/c you are going to have a labor cost where we didnt. Try to find a shop that drag races or builds drag cars and then go to them and get a quote. I am a member to a few drag racing forums and will see if I can find someone near you. What part of new york do you live in?

LOL you dont...

here is a breakdown
turbo $600-1500
fuel injectors $500-600
Fuel pump $250-300
Wastegate $300
Blow off valve $250
Intercooler $350-2000
custom pipe and
exhaust fab $1500-5000
Tuning, if you have a
DME tuner close $500-1500

I have built MANY turbo cars, not just upgraded the turbo...but taken a non turbo car and fabricated a whole new system for it. Unless you do it yourself, and used cheap or used parts you will hard pressed to do it for $2800 bucks. i am really suprized the OP is saying you could.

I currently have a Dinan S3 supercharger system on my 4.6is and have been thinking about building a turbo for it so i am pretty confident on the numbers above..

dont screw up your car doing it cheap

in the world of car mods you have the following three terms

CHEAP-FAST-RELIABLE

but you can only have TWO of the three....

Well, any vehicle with multiple issues, repairs and stopped working on you is a POS, doesn't matter what brand.

I traded my X5 in for a Z4. I loved my X5 and it was never a problem. I fixed things that broke, thats normal for any car. I only traded my X for a Z because I didnt need such a big truck any longer.
Its still the best SAV around.
For all of you who like to complain when you have to spend some money, sell it and take a F-N cab...

Wow, this comes from a rich guy i guess. If we had to take a cab everytime we spend money on senseless repairs of our x5, there will be cabs everywhere in my area. There are highclass, middle class and working class citizens, which one are you referring too? How about we sell the X, flush the money down toilet and still take a cab?
