Cost for oil pan gasket replacement??

Yeah especially since my car only has 98k, don't understand how or why but it is what it is.

The dealer quote me for $1,981.80 for replace oil pan gasket a month ago but I decline.
BTW, my 01 X5 3.0 is over 213k miles and still loving it.

I paid someone $600 in labor and had about $500 in parts for my oil pan gasket repair on my 3.0. He also did the front main seal while he was in there since it takes a plethora of special tools. The pan was leaking enough that annoyed me and dirtied up the garage floor. It was expensive, but I'm happy it's all done though.

I paid someone about 1K with parts to do this job. He was a certified tech. Job went well since my X5 is from the desert, and everything rust free. He highly recommended doing the front crank seal while everything below was apart since they are known to leak and special tools are required.

My parts cost was around $240 with all the self locking nuts, bolts, carrier, oil pan seal, and crankshaft seal, wholesale pricing. The carrier assy. was the most expensive part, but it comes as one unit. I'm happy it's all done. The oil puddles were driving me nuts.

so i just took my 2008 x5 3.0 in for an oil change and they told me i needed to replace the oil pan gasket i was a little shocked when they told me it was going to be $2800 but then i remembered i purchased a CNA warranty through the dealer when i purchased the truck a couple of years ago and it is covering the the job i only have to pay the deductible of $200 .. if you have a chance to get a warranty through CNA do it.. will definitely pay for itself ..

For those reading this thread...Always, always, and always rule out the OFH Gasket first.

- 1998 BMW 528i: what "appeared" to be oil pan gasket leak turned out to be OFH Gasket. I did the OFH Gasket (OEM gasket) in 2011 at 110K. The E39 is now at 170K, the oil pan gasket is still stock and bone-dry. This is the M52 engine.

- 2006 BMW X5 M54, same story, replaced the OFH Gasket and it is bone-dry now. Car has 130K miles.

- So before you spend $1500-$2000 for the oil pan gasket, replace the OFH Gasket yourself for $6.

just got quoted $1200 for my oil pan gasket by a local indy. changing out the VC and OFHG this weekend to make sure one last time but I am pretty sure the oil pan has been leaking for about the past 50k miles. I'm at 176k currently.

All that oil that accumulates on top of the aluminum pan may not be engine oil from the oil pan. I just replaced the oil seal and o-ring for the housing in which the passenger side cv axle passes through before going into the oil pan. An Indy BMW mechanic quoted me $600-$700 to replace the seal and o-ring. Part cost for both items was under $10.00.

Instead, I rented a lift at the local DIY garage and within 5 hours the seal and o-ring were installed and everything put back together. So by diying I save almost $400.
